ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Supreme Court suspended a Vadnais Heights attorney’s license indefinitely.
The Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility asked the state’s highest court to suspend Thomas John Lyons Jr. for allegedly lying and then attempting to cover up his lie. Lyons, a North Oaks resident, is founder of Vadnais Heights-based Consumer Justice Center.
The Supreme Court, which decides all attorney licensure petitions, issued an indefinite suspension. Lyons must wait at least a year before he can petition for reinstatement.
According to court documents, Lyons failed to disclose the death of a client and negotiated a $19,000 settlement after the client was dead. Lyons reportedly then made “false and misleading statements” to investigators. Lyons claimed he was unaware of his client’s death, but the court determined that e-mails proved otherwise.
